Wine Selection:
Forlorn Hope “Onavolk” Merlot 2015
Calaveras County, California
A small production (52 cases) wine from a relatively unknown region in California, Onavolk is an expressive and bright wine of 100% Merlot produced by the unconventional and somewhat rogue winemaker Matthew Rorick. Full of high toned red and black fruits and backed by firm ripe tannins, this Merlot absolutely sings with charcuterie and soft ripened cheeses.
Chateau Beausejour “Pentimento” 2016
Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux
Michele D’Aprix is an American female winemaker making wine in France, and her passion for soil and terroir shows in her thoughtfully produced wines. Pentimento is a 75% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc blend, and showcases Merlot’s dark fruit character backed by Cabernet Franc’s herbal undertones. With notes of mocha and soft herbs on the nose, this wine lingers on the palate with some rich plum and black cherry flavors.
Pride Mountain Vineyards Merlot 2018
83% Napa County, 17% Sonoma County
83% Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc making up the balance, this California Merlot is a supremely high quality example of Merlot’s capability for complexity and richness. Rich ripe fruit and notes of leather are uplifted and framed and uplifted by green pepper and savory herb notes. Altogether a real treat!
